Garbage Disposal Tip 1: Disposal Do’s And Dont’s

For many homes in Glendoragarbage disposals can create bigger drain cleaning jobs due to issues related to putting the wrong types of food into the disposal or not taking care of the equipment, or using it in a way it wasn’t intended.

If the blockage appears to deep within the system, one of Ace Pelizon’s Glendora plumbers have the equipment and experience to quickly identify the location of the block. That allows them to use the safest, most efficient for clearing it. And if you’ve tried to clear a blocked drain from a disposal, and the problem hasn’t gone away or it’s gotten worse, there could be larger problems.

Contact Ace Pelizon. We’ll get the drain cleared and functioning correctly right away and also provide some tips about what to do and what not to do to maintain your disposal. Meanwhile, here are a few of the more common do’s and dont’s:

Do: Run the garbage disposal every time you put food into the chamber.

Don’t: Pour grease or cooking oil into the disposal.

Do: Use some type of drain screen, and let grease harden and throw it away instead of pouring it down any drain.

Don’t: Use hot water while running the disposal.

Do: Use cold water while running the garbage disposal, and occasionally pour boiling water or vinegar down your disposal drain to clean it out.

Don’t: Use harsh drain cleaners to clear out any of the drain lines in your home.

Do: Put a small piece of lemon peel or lemon juice in the disposal to help keep odors at bay.

Don’t: Put food debris that is not intended for a garbage disposal into the chamber, such as animal bones and skin, coffee grounds, vegetable skins, including celery, potatoes, and carrot skins.

Do: Use ice or eggshells (only if you are connected to a main sewer line) to clean out the buildup in the chamber.

Don’t: Use eggshells if you have a septic tank.

Do: Call a Glendora plumber at Ace Pelizon Plumbing when you need a repair or maintenance service.
