During the final Monday of May every year, we commemorate those military personnel who have died in service to their country. Formerly known as Decoration Day, probably because of the way that graveyards were decorated with flowers, Memorial Day came to prominence in the wake of the American Civil War, which left the country war-torn, with many casualties on both sides. Since that time, it has been a day of remembering those who have given up the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
As you go about town on your day off from work, you’ll probably see an abundance of flags and flowers, as well as public commemorations such as parades. While this day has been turned into the last leg of a three-day weekend, it’s important to reflect on the way that our military personnel have shaped our country, and to remember their contribution to the way we live today. We at Ace Pelizon wish you all the best on Memorial Day.

San Dimas Water Filtration FAQ: What Are Specialty Cartridges and Housing in Water Filtration Systems?
Monday, December 3rd, 2012Home water filtration systems remove many of the chemical and mineral contaminants found in most municipal water supplies. But some water sources in the San Dimas area may also contain trace amounts of toxic substances that can only be removed by highly specialized filter cartridges, such as arsenic and nitrates.
We also provide water testing services for customers who are concerned about the quality of their water. We’ll perform a chemical analysis of your water and explain the results in language you can understand. If testing shows the presence of arsenic, nitrate, or some other rare contaminant, we’ll help you set up the cartridge filter and housing you need to provide your home with safe, clean water.
Deionizing and Demineralizing Cartridges
Specialty cartridges are most frequently used to deionize or demineralize household water. Water with too much mineral content is referred to as hard water. As their names indicate, these cartridges soften the water by removing excess amounts of ions and minerals such as calcium, chloride, and fluoride. Of course, there should always be trace amounts of minerals in the water we drink. Our bodies get many of the minerals we require from water, so water treated with deionizing cartridges may need to be rebalanced with certain minerals before it’s consumed.
Ace Pelizon installs and services all types of deionizing and demineralizing cartridge systems for household use. Our service team can answer any questions you have about water purity and how these specialty systems can be safely integrated into your household water supply. Like most household appliances, water filtration systems are intended to be out of sight and out of mind. They should operate trouble-free for years, providing you with all the clean, pure water you need without constant monitoring or servicing.
If tests have shown that you need to install a specialty cartridge to remove arsenic or some other harmful contaminant from your tap water, or if you’ve been told to deionize your water, call Ace Pelizon. We sell, install, and service a full range of specialty cartridges in San Dimas, and our water quality specialists can answer all your questions.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Friday, May 4th, 2012Family fun with this Cinco de Mayo craft:
Mexican Flag Pinata
What you’ll need:
- 1 brown paper grocery bag

- Tissue paper in red, white and green
- Crepe paper streamers in red, green and white
- 24” green yarn
- Hole punch
- Stapler
- Newspaper or other lightweight filler
- Small trinkets and candies
- Scissors
- White glue
How to make it:
- Open the grocery bag and put treats and trinkets inside. Fill about ¼ full.
- Fill remaining space with crumpled up newspaper. Leave a small amount of space at the top of the bag so it can be folded over and closed.
- Fold top over and secure with staples.
- Poke or punch a hole in the middle of the bag in the fold. Be sure it’s low enough that the hole won’t rip.
- Cut strips of tissue paper (in each color) about 3” x 5”. The easiest way to do this is to cut a strip of tissue paper 5” wide the full length of the sheet. Next fold the tissue paper in half, cut. Hold those two together and fold both in half, cut. Repeat until you have rectangles that are approximately 3” x 5”.
- Fringe the ends of the tissue paper by cutting slits about halfway up.
- Starting at the bottom of the bag, glue the tissue paper onto the bag by the solid edge only, do not glue the fringe down. Start with red on the left, then white in the middle, and green on the right.
- Repeat these steps, working your way upward toward the top of the bag.
- Cover the right side of the bag with green and the left side of the bag with red. Repeat the process on the other side, lining up the colors so that they match the side colors (green will be at the left and red at the right).
- Thread string or yarn through hole at the top and tie a knot.
- Gently lay the bag on its side.
- Cut 12 strips of crepe paper streamers (12 of each color) and glue to the bottom of the bag.
- Set aside to dry completely.
- Hang by your string and hit with a waffle bat or rolled up newspaper until it breaks.
Tips:
- Shop for Mexican candies to put in your pinata.
- Instead of crepe paper streamers, you can cut long thing strips of tissue paper.
- To reinforce your hanger, add a few staples through the yarn and the bag.
