Trenchless Pipe Replacement
In the past, if your main sewer line, water line, or other underground pipes were cracked, leaking, or infiltrated by roots, there were few options other than digging up your lawn and replacing the lines. However, modern technology has largely eliminated the need to dig massive trenches on your property. Trenchless pipe replacement has quickly developed as the most efficient, least invasive solution to your pipe replacement worries.
If you live in the San Gabriel Valley area and have any old underground pipe that needs to be replaced, call Ace Pelizon Plumbing today. Our expert plumbers use the latest technology in the industry to install new piping without destroying your lawn.
Trenchless Pipe Installation
The most common trenchless pipe replacement technique involves pulling a new length of pipe through the space currently occupied by your existing pipe. The old pipe is burst apart and discarded as the new pipe is pulled through.
To do this, entry and pulling pits are dug on your property – each about two feet wide and three feet deep. The entry pit is used to install the new pipe line while the pulling pit is used to draw the new pipe through the space occupied by your current pipe.
A pulling unit is constructed in the pulling pit. It is butted to the wooden shoring installed for the existing pipe or pilot hole. A cable is pushed through the length of existing pipe from one pit to the next and placed into the machine. A bursting cone is installed on the new length of pipe. The cable is attached to the bursting cone and the end of the pipe where a boot is attached.
Once the new pipe is prepared and the chain attached, the machine pulls the new pipe through the hole. The process takes time as the cable is slowly fed into new lengths of pipe. This is a more precise process than dropping a new pipe into a trench, but it’s far less destructive to your property.
Benefits of Trenchless Pipe Laying
For most homeowners, trenchless pipe replacement requires less time, less digging, less disruption and fewer permits from the city. If you have concrete on your property (especially if the pipe length is in a garage or basement) this is especially important. Either way, there are a lot of things to consider.
The best way to determine which method of pipe replacement is best for your home is to talk to a plumber with extensive experience replacing underground pipes. You can learn more about the various processes, how long they each take and which will be most effective for your situation.
