Earthquake Safety Valves

Did you know this is Earthquake Awareness Month?

seismometerThe purpose of Earthquake Awareness Month is to bring to the front of your mind the need for you and your family to be prepared. Although, with the recent increase of large magnitude earthquakes around the world, I am sure you were already thinking about “THE BIG ONE”.

Ace Pelizon Plumbing would like to take this opportunity to share with you a product we, and many others, have found to give you peace of mind in the event we happen to experience a large magnitude quake:

  • In the event of a large earthquake it may take some time for the Fire Department or The Gas Company to respond to dangerous gas leaks or fires resulting from gas leaks. To minimize the need to respond to these emergencies they often recommend that an Earthquake Automatic Gas Shut off Valve be installed.
  • Traditional manual wrench shut offs can fail to provide 100% stoppage of gas flow if not regularly serviced.
  • This device is automatically triggered by an earthquake with a magnitude 5.4 and greater — stopping the flow of gas into your home, protecting your home and family from potentially dangerous gas leaks.

  • Most Homeowner Insurance Companies offer discounts for having one installed. Call your insurance provider to see if you qualify.
  • As of 2002, the City of Los Angeles requires Earthquake Automatic Emergency Shut Off Valves for any home prior to sale, or as part of a remodel exceeding $10,000 in value.
