UV Water Disinfecting Systems

Generally speaking, mechanical and chemical water treatment systems can remove most contaminants, balance mineral levels and make water safe to drink and use in your home. However, in certain cases where bacteria and parasite levels rise to particularly high levels, you need a system that is designed specifically for the removal of those pathogens before they reach your home’s fixtures.

In these situations, UV water disinfecting systems are usually the solution Ace Pelizon Plumbing recommends. We offer a full range of services for our San Gabriel Valley area customers, from basic filtration to UV disinfection. Call us today if you have questions or concerns about the quality of your home’s water supply.

UV Water Disinfection

The key to UV disinfection is the power of ultraviolet light. In particular, UV–C radiation, which is emitted from these lights, can directly attack and destroy the genetic code of bacteria and some parasites which are resistant to chemicals. Because UV–C light is broadcast only at a 240–280nm range, it is harmless to humans and pets, but makes it impossible for bacteria and other pathogens to reproduce, rendering them incapable of infecting your family.

UV disinfection is growing in popularity because it leaves behind no chemical traces, no smells, no tastes and no other side effects that will impact your water negatively. Ultraviolet water disinfection is fast and works on all pathogens in that range – including bacteria, parasites, mold and viruses.

UV Light Water Purification & Other Systems

Of course, UV disinfection can’t remove all particles 100% of the time. Because organisms can sometimes hide in particles in your water, it’s recommended that UV–C lights be installed in conjunction with reverse osmosis filters. The distilled water will suspend the particles and therefore make it easier for the UV light to kill them. Regular, untreated water will of course still benefit from UV–C light but it won’t be as effective as it is with pre–treated water.

This technology is not used solely in homes—large water treatment plans in some states have begun utilizing UV water disinfection as well.

UV Disinfection Devices

All water supplies are likely to have some level of bacteria and pathogens. However, when levels get high enough or someone in your home requires extra protection, the addition of UV–C lights may be the added layer of protection you’re looking for.
