When you've got a clogged drain, there are two main professional tools for fixing it: a drain snake and a hydrojetter. They're not interchangeable. Each is the right solution in different situations — and using the wrong one wastes money.
What a Drain Snake Does
A drain snake is a long, flexible cable with an auger on the end. It physically breaks up or hooks a blockage. It's fast, affordable, and very effective for solid clogs — hair, soap buildup, or a foreign object. For most everyday clogs, it's the right tool.
What Hydrojetting Does
A hydrojetter uses water pressurized up to 4,000 PSI through a specialized nozzle that sprays in all directions. Instead of breaking through a clog, it completely removes it and scours the pipe walls clean. Grease buildup, mineral scale, and even tree roots can be cleared with hydrojetting.
When Snaking Is the Right Call
A drain snake is typically right for: a single clogged drain that hasn't happened before, a toilet or sink backup, and situations where you need a fast affordable fix. It's also gentler on older pipes.
When Hydrojetting Is Worth It
Hydrojetting makes more sense when: the clog keeps coming back after snaking, you have grease buildup in a kitchen line, there's root intrusion in a sewer line, or multiple drains are slow at the same time.
How We Decide
When you call us, we don't assume — we diagnose. For anything beyond a simple single-drain clog, we'll run a camera inspection to see what's actually happening inside the pipe before recommending hydrojetting. You only pay for what you actually need.
